Until this morning when my sister sent me an e-mail, I’ve yet to be mildly convinced with substantive reasons as to why to vote for Obama.

Subtleties don’t tell you much
…directly at least.
A man that Fortune’s buffets and rewards
Hast ta’en with equal thanks; and blest are those
Whose blood and judgment are so well commingled
That they are not a pipe for Fortune’s finger
To sound what stop she please. Give me that (wo)man
That is not a passion’s slave, and I will wear him
In my heart’s core, ay, in my heart of heart,
As I do thee.
- Shakespeare’s Hamlet III, ii, 68-75
There should be a balance between emotion and reason; emotion shouldn’t dictate any decision solely.
Here’s hoping Pt. II
My blog’s bleeding hope… fantastic.
Has anyone heard that quote, “Politics is Hollywood for ugly people?” Ugly and smart and maybe I’d agree, but anyway. Reading the news is like perusing endless celebrity gossip sites, except I don’t feel my brain rotting and am not embarrassed when friends try to sneak up behind me. I can’t wait for March 4th for Ohio’s primary and Texas’ weirdo primary/caucus–I still have faith in Hillary.
Here’s hoping
I hope I don’t become one of those people who start off every sentence with, “Well, my psychologist told me…”.
C++
In my programming discussion, my TA insists on writing in small caps. I am a big fan of small caps–on the computer, in design–NOT on the chalk board while teaching C++. C++ is a case sensitive language! How am I supposed to learn anything while muddling over whether classes are capitalized or not?
“A Personal Request on Proposition 92″ Fr. my sis
Dear friends and family,
I hope this message finds you all well. Some of you haven’t heard from me in a while, but rest assured that I am indeed alive and kicking! I’m writing to ask a personal request about the upcoming primary election this Tuesday. For those who have not already voted absentee, I’m requesting that you consider voting YES on Proposition 92, the proposition that would stabilize community college funding.
Even though community colleges enroll 2.5 million students each year (UCs and CSUs have about 700,000 combined), we are lumped in with K-12, and historically, community colleges have not gotten our fair share of the portion. Even though the State passed Prop 98 that ensured a minimum funding base for K-12 and community colleges, the state calculates this amount with the enrollment growth of K-12 and then splits it with the community colleges. Currently, the number of K-12 students are decreasing while community college numbers are INCREASING, which means the colleges will receive less apportionment.
In a two year period starting in 2003, the State raised tuition from $11 per unit to $26 per unit but did not give community colleges any of that extra funding. Mind you, it was also around that time that I received a pink slip because of inadequate funding in my district!
At any rate, this is just a pitch for Yes on Prop 92 so the community colleges would have more rights over its own system. Thanks for reading, friends.
Best,
Theresa
