My thoughts on college and etc.

I don’t think we should take this very seriously. Passion and honesty will prevail!

I believe in good music and that Shakespeare ought to be read very slowly and not mindlessly in class aloud (or is it outloud?)! My birthday seems so untimely this year. It feels so selfish to force everyone to celebrate such an unsignificant day relative to all that is going on.

“The following, like the overwhelming number of current Fulbrights – WOMEN Fulbrights doing RESEARCH – is an imperfect indicator, but one worth considering. Harvard, Yale, Amherst, Williams, Wesleyan, Dartmouth, Princeton, Columbia, Brown have all now been coed for 30 years, and in some cases 35 years. Exactly how many female senators or congresswomen do they currently count among their graduates? You think maybe 20? Think again. 10? try again. 5? Still too high. 2? How about ZERO?

Whereas the women’s colleges, with smaller populations (and including some schools much, much less selective than Smith and Wellesley) currently make up 20% of all the women in Congress. Statistical outlier? I think not.”

Heh heh. Interesting fact although I don’t intent to knock any of the aforementioned schools. 0:)

Intermission

No, it’s not that I have nothing to say. There is always something to say, but there is always a time to step back and observe.

A recent encounter with rather ignorant people or person has led me to believe that you can’t fight. You shouldn’t hold people accountable for stupidity, however natural it may be, but ignorance.. you can’t excuse ignorance. To you, I am sorry and I hope that you find all that you are looking for.

Anyway, this dreary month is finally almost over. Typical of my deadline mindset and willingness to share some happenings of my life, here are a few numbers:

- 3 days until SC and MHC decision
- 8 days until March 28
- 9 days until UC decisions
- 10 days until WC decisions
- 17 days until Spring Break/MA
- 38 days until National Arbor Day
- 42 days until Senior Prom
- 44 days until AP Government Exam
- 45 days until AP Stats Exam
- 47 days until AP Lit Exam
- 84 days until graduation
- ?? days to raise my C, D+ and D
- Something about yearbook

Publications, jobs and gadgets galore

Just a thought–For college, between the three: yearbook, literary magazine or newspaper, I think I’d have to throw my towel in as far as yearbook is concerned. The yearbook embodies too many sentiments and the past, something that I still appreciate but would like to eventually move on from. Now, literary magazine or newspaper? I can’t get away from publications!

By the way, I would hate to be an investment banker when I grow up. I just read this article in the NY Times about ‘Corporate Hippies’ and how people who are seeking careers focused on environmentalism are merging their interest with a career in business. Now, I can rest assured. Having conquered my first dream-job at Barnes & Noble, I think I am ready to take on the Apple store. If only they would hire a 17-year-old tech-whiz like me already.

Anyway, I feel as if my brain is degenerating. It’s really disheartening to know that so many of us are BSing ourselves through these last handful of high school classes because in all honesty, we haven’t learned a single thing this year. What happened to teachers teaching?

I saw this on the news yesterday. You can search the web with a real person to find exactly what you’re looking for. Speaking of jobs, I don’t know whether that is an extremely futile job or an extremely cool job.

March 24–Leopard? Please! While we are on gadgets, I hear a lot of electronics and servers and all of that nerdy good stuff are having trouble with the DST. What a good cause though.

On the road: Encounters

I’ve had my fair share of mishaps as far as the cars and driving goes. You know, a fender bender here, pulling out my laptop there. This, however, does not equate to my being a bad driver, a careless driver, but a very good careless driver at that.

This morning, I had a doctor’s appointment at 8 a.m. in Campbell which requires me going on 280.. before 8 a.m. An otherwise punctual me left at 8 a.m. and found myself in the fury that is morning traffic. It was between the stop and go, John Mayor on NPR and my sudden realization of all the pollution that I discovered this wild fascination for.. just really outrageous drivers and seeing their faces. This morning, it was a truck. In their paint-splattered truck, they drove exceptionally slow, even with traffic in mind. I nod it off, change lanes and pass them up only to have the guy in shotgun wave at me and then try to pass me up! These guy, the nerve! Alongside this wild fascination (There isn’t much to think about while sitting in traffic), I also revived my abhor for single-passenger drivers who use the carpool lane, especially in traffic.

I encountered another two bouts of outrageous drivers, in trucks too, this afternoon on the way to and from yearbook. On my way to yearbook, Truck #2 AKA Mr. Impatient Wild Hands. I was waiting behind this guy at the light to take a left turn at Tully. As soon as the light turned green, he began to wave his arms, signaling or dancing or just very angrily–I couldn’t differientiate–then speeds off up Tully. Okay, I thought, this guy is..

(I will finish later, I need to go.)

Damn the karma for scrutinizing seemingly innocent bystanders because at the last streetlight, all windows down, to my right was a garbage truck.

Blogs are so revealing

March is dreary and long, but at least the weather is nice. Nice weather makes nice people, for the most part.

And, are you kidding me?

Dear Tree Amigos,
I hope you are all doing great and ready for this spring! We have 1000 trees to plant by the end of April.
